>:(NSU's web siteancestry, most of who reside in or have familial ties to Louisiana. Research has shown many other ethnicity have contributed to this culture including, but not limited to, Chinese, Russian, German, and Italian.
I haven't been to the NSU Creole Heritage Center in about a year-so they sent me a bill asking for money-so I went on the site and they have changed the definition of Creole to now say it can include but not limited to Chinese and Russian.
O.K. the German coast is located over New Orleans and of course many Creoles and Cajuns are mixed with Italian but less is sometimes better. The expanding of Creoles to include non-traditional La. communities like from China or Russia just isn't supported by any historic records or historic facts in La. state.
The main argument that I get from Creole deniers and nay sayers about Creoles not really existing-is the fact that they say "everyone can be a Creole" "There is no such thing as a Creole"-and they always fall back on this expanding definition of who was and is Creole.
I had an ongoing feud with a famous New Orleans chef, journalist and food reviewer who-went around New Orleans in 2005 and 2006-saying that Creoles do not exist.
Of course, I shut this man down and haven't seen him in any New Orleans publications since he made those comments but what NSU and many are doing in Natchitoches parish-with these "creative" definition for Creoles-is making many Creoles live harder in La. state. Cajuns have no worries, everyone has a consensus that Cajuns are a specific community and from a specific background-therefore Cajuns are real but Creoles are "all in ones mind." Watering down our Creole definition to just because some researcher located a Creole in 2009-who married a Chinese man or woman-DOSE NOT MEAN THAT La. CREOLES ARE PART CHINESEA OR RUSSIAN. There aren't any Chinese or Russians in La. today(maybe 2) let alone during colonial America.
NSU's website says that they have research-where is this research and who did the researching? NSU and Cane River deals with alot of outsiders and they(NSU) distribute these people's research as law to other Creoles-who may or may not know any better.
