All it takes is for You to do is look around You...To Me it's quite obvious..If You are living in a mixed enviornment of course You will see that most People of African Descent have some White Mixture, However, in some areas of the Deep South that are Rural You will find a great majority of Black Americans that have little or no mixed blood whatsoever..Having a small percentage of mixed blood does not make one Mixed Race..
It's the Outward appearance and the acceptance by he dominate group which determines a Person's ethnic background..There is no such thing as a Pure White, Pure Asian or Black so how can one say that by having a little bit of White or Black Blood makes them Mixed Race...It's how others perceive You..Besides Creole is a Culture and not a Race...To My knowledge there are very few Creoles or Mulattoes that are in denial of their Racial background...
In the past there were some Who preferred the White label not because they wanted to be White but because they wanted the opportunity to have a better life, and who are You to judge? ,but now a days with the Multiracial society We live in it is not necessary..I'm very fair and probably could pass for anything other than Black but the thought never passed My mind...
Believe Me The Race card is pretty hard to play for anybody of Color and who would want to..Being Black does not mean that We all have to think Black..How would You like it if We were all Black Black or All Mulattoes ..The creator made Us what We are so who are We to judge..There is nothing wrong with being Mixed Race ..It just goes to show the World how racially Mixed People of the African Race can be...It's a beautiful thing and the Black Race is the Only Race that can boast such a diversity, so You all should be Proud and stop this stereo typing

What if a black person told you that they had no admixture what so ever would you believe them. Or would you be like oh sure of course you are. But you would tell a lighter skin person oh your crazy if you think that your 100%, right? Do you think some people were spared of the mixing in America?

I'm interested in learning more about my family. My grandmother's father was Oliver Lacy born in 1900 in Opelousas, Louisiana to Ophelia Linton born in August 1877. Ophelia's parents were Joseph Linton and Mary McDaniel, First Ward, St. Landry Parish. If anyone can tell me more information, please do so!!! Thanks!!!

A win for Creoles! The Catholic Church, lost itself for a minute, and thought that they were going to steam roll over Creoles but change has arrived to New Orleans. Creole history WILL be respected in Louisiana and by the Catholic church! Don't be fooled about the circumstances around Hughes removal; he was removed because Creoles got him removed.

Many People that see and hear this word Creole and think that this group of People are in denial of their African Ancestry.This is as far from the truth as anyone can be.. .Africa is the most Racially diverse Continent in the World...there are Black Africans, Mixed Raced Berbers, Arabic and Moslems of all kinds Caucasians that come in different varities of skin color,East Indians and a melting pot of Every Race of Mankind...We all as People of African Ancestory should be proud of that..
The issue is not one of African ancestry but one on Cultural Pride...We Creoles have done more for the advancement of the Black Race on this Continent that any other group of People of Color and Our History and Accomplishments show this...All We want is to Preserve Our Culture and way of life which has been in decline every since America took over the Louisiana Territory in 1803..If anything Africa America Owes Us and Our People is a great deal of Respect and Gratitude and not Hostilities.
Yes there are some that have moved on to the White Race but not out of Racial indiffiences but as a means of survival and also because the had the means to do so.White American still maintains their Cultural differences and separate identify with their native Cultures and Countries.. why not People of African Descent..I think People of African Descent can only solidify their kinship to one another by maintaining there History and respect for one's Own Culture...

I was wondering about the whole one drop rule and my thoughts are what if it was to reverse to say if blacks were mixed on the count of slavery and miscegenation then should they say well i am mixed, America take that! Then they wont be just black anymore. Alot of them wont go for that. But I am talking about the few who might. That just gives everything a whole new spin that way maybe everyone else who are fgms or mgms can really say without a problem that they are mixed!? THOUGHTS anyone? What I am saying is one drop of any blood that isn't black makes you mixed and any black blood down the line still makes you multi-mixed and not just one race.

Bonjour. What a wonderful story. I think that I should do an article on the Choctaw culture. My grand father was full bloodied and spoke Creole-French. The thing about the Choctaw tribe is that they were a gypsy tribe. Many Creoles of Color-in the Lafayette and Houma areas-can no longer understand each other unless your from the exact same town in La. because this was a Choctaw habit. Choctaws did not stay in one place to develop land and grow agriculture but moved from place to place. There should be more open dialog with Native American tribes and Creoles but right now-Native American tribes have an agenda of getting government money and all of a sudden if your not considered "full blooded" then your an outsider even if your 80% native American and can trace your roots back to the late 1700's with these people! So, even though there isn't a reservation set in Louisiana for Choctaws-they seriously think that EVERYONE is out to get their government checks. Contemporary Native American "sell out" culture disgust me to points of no return. My step-father is Native American Choctaw-and his entire family were "white" AT FIRST, then when those checks started arriving in the 90's they were all Native American again and dancing around a fire. Creoles and Choctaws could be working toward getting an entire Louisiana Parish set aside for a "strong hold" but if the government sees that Creoles are "informing" Native Americans-then they will just issue them a check and they will take the bribe-as they have been doing since colonial days. The same with blacks. One would think that they would want to be "vexed" over judges allowing nooses and slave whipping post to be displayed in the workplace-if you live in Jefferson parish or bringing down the levels of young black men shooting in New Orleans or being sentenced for 50 years for a 5.00 bag of weed but NOPE! They have nothing better to do than to chant " Creoles want to be white" "creoles think that they are better than blacks"-but yet the only reason New Orleans has all black University system is because Creoles allowed them o over flow them, so that they can be educated. The only reason that they have homes-is because they could move into Creole areas-but yet Creoles are uppity and self-hating? Please! The reason why the power-structure has been so good at destructing Native American, Creole and Black culture-is due to Native Americans and Blacks having so many instilled, slave massa programs-that one can not even work with these people on anything serious.
